Gerald Faulder

plein air on heavily gessoed paper

Gerald Faulder's interest is in following the light to reconsider recognizable places and sites. His landscapes express a personal vision and experience of these familiar spaces, whether it is expansive mountain views, intimate forest scenes, or images of prairies and foothills.  Faulder works, frequently plein air (in the outdoors), with oil paint on canvas, on panel and on heavily gessoed paper.  His practice also encompasses floral still life and pure abstracts.  The artist, born in Edmonton, graduated from the University of Alberta with a BFA in 1982.  He received an Alberta Culture Travel Grant (1986), Alberta Culture Project Grant (1985), and University of Alberta Drawing Award (1981).

The series at our gallery are plein air landscapes of well-known and loved locations in and around Banff National Park, Lake Louise, the Bow Valley as well as up the parkway to Jasper National Park.
