Hello Everyone: We are in the midst of the changeable weather again, it is fall – hence in Banff we are experiencing some significant shifts in the day (it was sunny this morning and now we have snow).
We have some wonderful exhibitions coming up and of course new work in the gallery by a number of our artists.

News
We are saddened to relate that Joane Cardinal-Schubert passed away on September 16, 2009. She was 67 years old. Cardinal-Schubert was a well-respected senior artist from the Blood Nation, and was an active advocate among native artists in Canada. In 1985, she became the fourth woman in Alberta to be inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and she was awarded the Commemorative Medal of Canada in 1993. Her voice and her conviction will be sadly missed.

Out and About
For the past few weeks we have been watching the birds get organized for their flight south, judging by today’s weather we sincerely hope they are well on their way. A number of different warblers, flycatchers, and vireos have paused in their journey – delightfully we have seen Downy Woodpeckers, Flickers, Gray Jays, Robins, Slate Colored Juncos, Harris’ Sparrows, White-crowned & Chipping Sparrows. The antelope have grouped together out on the prairie, with harems well-formed. The Elk and Mule Deer are occasionally around; we think they try to better each other by how many cars they can stop. All look quite magnificent. The alpenglow the other evening was a sight; the Fairholme Range in particular was awash with pink that infused every crack, crevice, and open face.
Hope everyone is well, all the best,
Tom and Susan
PS: since sending out the newsletter, we also spotted a flock of Ruby Crowned and Golden Crowned Kinglets. Although the information indicates these are 'hardy little birds' we hope they are intending to fly south asap.
