Kelly Etidloie

Kellipalik was born in 1966 and is the son of the well-known Cape Dorset artists, Etidlooie and Kingmeata. His older brother, Etulu Etidui and adopted sister Omaluk Oshutsiaq are also Cape Dorset carvers.

Kelly Etidlooie started carving in the 1980s. He initially started working with hand tools, but in the late 1980s, he began using power tools. He credits his sister Omaluk Oshutsiaq with having taught him, for a time he apprenticed with her. As well, he spent five years carving for Polar North in Montreal, where he frequently carved seven days a week. This resulted in a fine tuning of his skills at a good pace that allows him to be considered a good senior carver with a distinctive and fluid style.
